The problem

Many university students, especially in their first years, study passively: they read and memorize summaries and get to the exam without knowing how much they really understand. Those who need guidance often rely on private tutors, which not everyone can afford.

The first years are also when most students drop out, partly because adapting to new study habits is hard. There was no single tool that brought planning, practice and progress tracking together.

The solution

READY4 is a web platform where each student adds their subjects, exam dates and PDF study materials. From that, it builds an automatic study plan, generates AI-powered practice exams from the student's own materials and offers an assistant that answers questions about those notes.

Students can also study in groups, bring in a tutor and track progress in every subject.

My role

A final-year Systems Engineering project built by a team of five. I worked as a frontend developer:

  • App foundations: design-system components, the connection to the server and sign-in.
  • Account: sign-up and password recovery.
  • Student screens: part of the create-a-subject wizard, attendance tracking, the whole practice-exam module, exam history and the AI assistant.
  • Admin panel: route protection plus user, role and permission management.
  • Collaboration: invitations, member management, the group ranking and tutor ratings.

I also set up the frontend in production with a teammate and reviewed my teammates' changes before they were merged.

Key features

  • Automatic study plan: students enter their available days, exam date and intensity, and the system lays out study sessions week by week.
  • AI-generated practice exams: multiple-choice or true/false questions built from the student's own PDFs, with instant grading and per-question feedback.
  • Assistant grounded in your own notes: answers questions using only the uploaded materials, with clear usage limits.
  • Progress and reports: per-subject progress that blends units, practice exams and attendance, with PDF and CSV export.
  • Collaborative spaces: classmates and a tutor, a forum, shared materials, group practice exams and a progress ranking.
  • Day-to-day organization: a class and exam calendar, a Pomodoro timer, notifications and a tutor finder.

Challenges and decisions

Using AI without surprises or hidden costs. If the AI service fails, nothing is saved halfway and the student's weekly quota isn't used up. Limits are clear, and answers come from the student's own materials, not generic information.

One person, different roles per subject. Someone can own one subject, be a group member in another and tutor a third. The platform shows and enables only what fits each case, and the admin panel prevents an administrator from removing their own access.

Timely reminders without scheduled jobs. The hosting provider didn't guarantee reliable scheduled tasks, so date-based reminders are generated when the person opens the app, and each one is recorded only once so it never repeats.

Results

  • Live in production on a custom domain, with the full student flow working end to end.
  • 80 user stories planned across 14 modules.
  • More than 90 reviewed and merged frontend changes in about two and a half months.
  • Presented in live demos to the faculty.
